Together Senior Health is excited to share that the results from our Moving TogetherTM clinical trial have been published in Alzheimer's & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions, a journal of the Alzheimer's Association.

Moving TogetherTM is the first virtual therapeutic program that combines gentle movement, mindful body awareness, music, and social interaction, and is tailored specifically for the way that people with cognitive decline can continue to learn and engage. It is a fun, evidence-based program that people with dementia and caregivers can do together from the comfort of home.

Our clinical trial demonstrated that Moving TogetherTM improves quality of life and reduces falls for people with dementia and reduces stress for caregivers. These robust research results provide scientific evidence to support what our participants have been telling us for years – that Moving Together helps them feel better physically, socially, and emotionally.

Improvements in Quality of Life :  “Quality of Life” refers people’s sense of physical, mental and social well-being and ability to enjoy life activities.

“I think participation with a group made me feel more connected to the world, happier and energized.” [participant with memory loss]

“I had been struggling with not really caring about things and not being motivated to do more than I had to. I am now feeling more energetic and enjoying and appreciating things more.” [participant with memory loss]

“The movement exercises helped make memory a little clearer and I always looked forward to joining the program.” [participant with memory loss]

Reduces Caregiver Stress:  “Caregiver Stress” appears as physical or emotional exhaustion or guilt around the ongoing care of a loved one and can result in one’s own health issues and isolation.

“[I appreciated] the other people in the class and the camaraderie that was built and open discussions we had.” [caregiver participant]

“[I felt] more relaxed, it’s good for the care relationship for us to do something together that involved other people, and that didn’t involve doctors or medicine.” [caregiver participant]

“It’s a very positive class. Finding something that brings you joy makes all the difference!” [caregiver participant]

Fewer Falls:  People with dementia tend to fall more often and have worse outcomes than their peers without dementia, leading to earlier and expensive institutional care.

“ The course opened my mind to subtle signals that I’d not felt or recognized before. I now use these to help stabilize myself. This is particularly useful in standing and sitting.” [participant with memory loss]

“She got motivated to stand, and ultimately walk. I was terrified she would never walk again and I couldn’t take care of her because I can’t lift and move her, even though she weighs 95 lbs. It kept her out of Assisted Living.” [caregiver participant]

High rates of satisfaction and engagement:

"At the end of class I feel so good, and this makes me happy.” [participant with memory loss]

"I feel like I am moving better, breathing better and improving, I feel it in my whole self." [participant with memory loss]

"I'm very happy that I was in this group…and I appreciate your teaching us something that we can use for the rest of our lives. I am very grateful that we went through this experience together." [caregiver participant]
